Dear Members

December is already here, can you believe that the year is almost over….
Let me start off with a nice positive comment, November 2017 once again produced better turnover than November 2016, which means we are still heading in the right direction. Onto a sad note, I just called Fish River Sun to ask if I can come play golf today and its officially closed. It’s very sad to see a course like that closing on our door step and although I think we will be busy over the holiday season with coastal visitors, I think its going to have an impact on touring golfers throughout next year. After discussions with ELGC this week, we think the golf tours might be heading towards Durban and the Garden Route and not the Eastern Cape, as Fish was a big attraction for golf and accommodation. So we heading into a bit on an unknown after the holiday season, but we still hopeful that the golf tours will be coming through the Eastern Cape with Fish no longer in operation.

With 2018 being a Golf Digest Course Rating year, we hoping to crack the top 100 courses in SA, which is announced in March 2018. I have extended an invite to the course raters to come and see the course, Stuart McLean, editor of Golf Digest will be visiting us just before Christmas to do a rating.

The committee is fully aware of how important a top 100 will be for our course, this will attract more visitors wanting to tick off their top 100 courses played as well as giving us a status of an established course. These raters will be coming through during the holiday season between now and mid February so our focus will be on getting the course to its absolute best over this period.

We have introduced a handicap committee with the main purpose of checking that the correct scores are being entered into the system as well as general monitoring of handicaps. If you have any queries on scores, handicaps etc please send me a mail and I will pass on to the relevant members involved.

Well Done to our ladies who managed to win the picture match against Port Alfred!!! The space on the wall is now full again….. Well done to Megan and her team of ladies, good solid golf got the picture back home!!

Just another reminder that we have a kitchen and bar staff Christmas Box at the bar, Thank you to those who have already make donations. Lets try give the staff a nice little cash bonus for Christmas. They will certainly appreciate the gesture!!

Lastly, also remember that the placing on all fairways in now a CARD LENGTH and not a club length.
On behalf of the staff and the committee, we wish all of you a Merry Christmas and a great new year to come. – The club will be closed on Christmas and New Years Day!!!
